I kind of like this poster. It manages to transmit that “good old times” feeling, it’s splashy, and it introduces the main players and the story succinctly. It makes the film look as exciting as you could possibly make a documentary about two guy fighting for the top score in Donkey Kong look.
I do wonder why they don’t use any visual elements from the actual game in it. Due to rights complications perhaps? I imagine that is one thing that could have made the poster more attractive, at least to those of us old enough to be nostalgic for the classic Donkey Kong.

I used to love playing Donkey Kong! You are right, they probably couldn’t use any visual elements due to copyright but I like the poster all the same. It even looks a little like an old video game which I expect is what they were trying to achieve.
Donkey Kong was a real classic , I only played it a couple of weeks ago with my son , and he loved it also , you cant beat the classics
Yes, it would have caused them a big trouble if they have put Donkey Kong in their poster. They would probably paid a lot for a lawsuit than gaining from the documentary.
Donkey Kong is epic…any one of them. I still play Donkey Kong Country with my daughter on SNES every now and again. Brings back great memories <3 it!
My wife is an avid Donkey Kong player, so when I saw this I had to show her. She thought is was real funny that someone made a movie about playing the game and getting top score. I like the classic design of the poster.
