I think a more effective poster would have just said Memorial Day 2008 on a plain black background.

Yeah, I noticed that, but thought it fell under the category of “shameless in-joke that fans should notice and wink at that is way too obvious.”

I’m not mad about the poster. But I’m satisfied with it. I think in this case less is more… and if you’re an observant film goer, or just a loser ( i fall into both catigories ) you’d notice that even though it’s just a big box, it’s relatively the same size and number as the box at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark…I think this adds a nice subtle amount of suspense…Conclusion, I approve.

I recognize that there could have been more creative liberties taken here…as well as a hell of a lot more mystery created, but that said…I feel as excited seeing this poster as I did when I was a kid seeing commercials for Young Indiana Jones. Give an alcoholic a cheap beer, he’ll follow you around for weeks…

This is a weak poster, even for a teaser. It’s just too easy. Though I agree with your points in regards to selling/un-selling a movie, the people responsible for making the poster should have done SOME work. Hell, I could have made this, and I’m no graphic designer.

It’s not bad, necessarily, just cowardly.
