I understand the characters are supposed to be waiting to start their "game" in this poster but the first thing I see is murderers atoning for their gruesome sins (a tad disingenuously in Michael Pitt's case, if I might add...)

Yes I agree. I bought a big print of the first poster with an extreme close up shot of Naomi Watts. The picture is pure brilliance and a great marketing strategy. Reminds me of movie posters from the 60s and 70s. It has a nostalgic appeal. It makes us think and empathize with the character, while contemplating our own questions and wanting more as an audience. The poster with the clubs does have a different feel with a subtle but strong approach. The third poster allows us to compare and contrast the antagonists on the film. The white on white displays cleanliness, prestige and innocence while the red on white is both profound and disturbing. All three are great pieces of cinematic art. I am anxious to see the film.

What really gets me about this one and also the second one is the metallic look that is achieved by the white on white. I don't know if its intentional but I just can't help but love the way it looks.
