Considering that The Spirit’s cast includes such names as Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson it’s a bit surprising that Eva Mendes is getting her second character poster. Meanwhile, the others have none.

Then again maybe that’s the idea. Save the main character posters for some date closer to the actual opening of the film, which is only in December.

Anyway, I think it’s interesting to compare this to the last Mendes poster. That poster had a lot of, uh, curves, so to speak, but little more than that. This new one is not only more interesting visually, it tells us a lot more about the character and is, because of that, fascinating.

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying it again. The Spirit campaign is striking me as surprisingly character centric. I expected something that would rely much more on visuals, and I have to say I’m very pleased that this hasn’t really been the case. This movie is looking more and more interesting.
